Integral Group to Feature Multiple Speakers at Building Lasting Change 2017

(Vancouver, BC): We are proud to announce that several of our Integral Group team members will be presenting at the CaGBC International Conference: Building Lasting Change 2017. A mix of Integral team members from Canada and the UK will share their industry knowledge at this sustainability-focused conference taking place at the Vancouver Convention Centre from May 30th to June 1st.

As the largest green building industry event in Canada, it is known for activating connections, delivering world class learning opportunities and cultivating inspiration and innovation. The conference is run by the Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC), who alongside Green Building Councils from around the globe, aims to reduce the environmental impact of the built environment. This year, there will be a pre-conference Net Zero Carbon Buildings Summit to launch Canada’s first zero carbon verification program.

Presenting CaGBC's Zero Carbon Building Standard

Dave Ramslie will be a part of the team presenting the framework for the CaGBC’s Zero Carbon Building Standard & Pilot Projects. He is also moderating a panel discussion on Net Zero Carbon Policies across Canada, which will feature perspectives throughout different levels of government pertaining to Net Zero policies. David will focus the talk towards the importance of addressing carbon emissions and the challenges and opportunities of developing low carbon buildings across Canada.

Western Canada speakers include Principal Ali Nazari and Sustainability Designer Kevin Welsh whom will present ‘Tower Power: Tenants Have the Power to Drive Change’. The presentation will discuss how tenants wield the influence to create change on a greater scale by voting with their wallets. With a focus on Integral’s ground-breaking developments TELUS Garden, 745 Thurlow, MNP Tower and The Exchange Building, the talk will cover the positive return on investments for building green and pursuing sustainability. They will discuss how targeting LEED and sustainability can have unprecedented returns for new developments. The re-evaluation of primary goals for new construction can draw in many new buyers in the modern market and stimulate sustainability on an international scale. This presentation falls under the ‘Green Real Estate’ theme at the conference, which specializes in green engineering developments and the dynamics of sustainability markets.

Principal Edward Garrod and Environmental Designer Clara Bagenal George, from the London Office will be presenting ‘Transitioning Beyond Co-Generation’ which will explore why issues within Energy Policy in the UK. The session will seek to understand why The Energy Policy in the UK – led by London – actively promotes the uptake of combined heat and power systems (co-gen) in buildings to reduce carbon emissions, decentralize energy generation, and capture energy cost savings.

They will discuss why this needs to be challenged as co-gen’s economic and technical viability continues to be undermined by lower heating demands as building envelopes are improved and lower hot water demands as water efficiency is increased. Growing concerns will be explained, including co-gen’s impact on urban air quality. Their talk falls within the ‘Cutting Edge International Innovation’ theme at the conference, which is focusing on what Canada can learn from innovators and projects across the globe to move toward zero carbon and environmental footprint buildings and communities.
