Colgate University | Trudy Fitness Center

Trudy Fitness Center is Colgate’s first LEED-certified building. Colgate launched a Wellness Initiative in 2004 to encourage the establishment of healthy, purposeful, and balanced lifestyles within the Colgate community. It had become clear that the former fitness center no longer met the demands of an ever-more fitness-oriented campus community. The construction of the new fully accessible fitness center connects to Colgate University’s existing gymnasium, which solved some significant space issues and nearly doubled the space to accommodate equipment and programs. The fitness center’s lower level, built of cast-in-place concrete, is ten feet below grade to reduce energy usage and building footprint. It houses strength-training equipment, full-length mirrors below clerestory windows, stretching areas, stowing cubbies, bathrooms, and a wellness office.

The University selected Integral Group to provide design peer review, commissioning, and project close-out services. In addition, Integral Group’s involvement included some design efforts to enhance MEP system operation, performance, and serviceability.
