Harris Academy Merton Sixth Form Building
Recently completed, this project consists of a new two storey steel framed sixth form building which adds an extra 1025m² of gross external area to the academy. The ground floor accommodates five classrooms and the site managers office with the first floor containing two additional classrooms and flexible teaching space.
Elementa delivered mechanical and electrical engineering detailed design services and energy and sustainability strategies for this project. Sustainable features include a 15kW wind turbine in order to meet Part Lbuilding regulations and planning requirements. The aim for this project was met: to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating.
To facilitate this, a dynamic thermal model was produced in order to inform design decisions regarding the most appropriate renewable technologies, ventilation strategies and heating solutions for the scheme. The resultant services strategy included natural ventilation via external opening windows and trickle ventilators, low energy lighting with perimeter daylight sensing and occupancy sensors.
