The Macedonia is the first new construction multifamily affordable housing development to receive EarthCraft Certification in Arlington, Virginia. The 5-story 39,700 square foot building incorporates 36 affordable units and one and a half levels of underground parking. The building entrance and commercial spaces activate the ground floor along Shirlington Road. The apartment building includes a special central heating and cooling system that reduces energy costs by redirecting heat from air conditioning for one apartment to the heating system in use by another apartment. This is especially effective in the spring and fall when temperature comfort levels vary among households.
Integral Group provided full service mechanical and electrical engineering services for the new multi-family residential building. The residential design includes sustainable features such as: efficient lighting and appliances, low flow fixtures, and a highly efficient HVAC system using a two pipe variable fluid for shared heating and cooling between multiple tenants.
