Chase Bridge Primary School
Chase Bridge Primary School is a two-form entry junior mixed infant school. London Borough of Richmond upon Thames had a requirement to provide additional primary school places. Consequently, it was identified that Chase Bridge could be expanded to a three-form entry school to accommodate 630 pupils from reception to year six and a 39 place full-time nursery.
To achieve this, a scheme was delivered to rebuild a substantial part of the school, increasing its overall area. The school is provided with a new entrance, offices, LRC, staff room, main hall, classrooms/associated ancillary spaces, group rooms, etc.
Phasing was carefully considered with the new sections connecting back into existing buildings, keeping such facilities fed and entirely usable during the works before partial demolition of a large proportion of the existing building.
Chase Bridge is very close to the Heathrow Airport flight path. Therefore, a sealed environment was very probable. After our early options appraisal, we determined that to avoid the cost and long-term maintenance implications of a mechanical ventilation strategy, an acoustically attenuated natural ventilation solution were developed, being the most economical and the added benefit of having a lower carbon footprint.
