Downview Primary School
This project involves the extension of a 2FE to 3FE primary school to increase the student population from 420 to 630 from pupils ages 4-11. This development includes demolishing previous buildings and creating a new classroom block to accommodate 12 classrooms, an SEN therapy/MI room, and the main entrance. Extension and alterations are also required to the main hall, staff room, and administration areas.
Elementa Consulting has undertaken the concept and detailed design for this basic needs new block expansion achieving a highly cost-effective and energy-efficient design. The building is naturally ventilated, heated by high-efficiency gas boilers and radiators, and uses modern LED lighting in teaching spaces combined with daylight dimming and absence detection.
Elementa Consulting modeled the natural ventilation solution using dynamic model simulation to optimize the building form for the most cost-effective yet attaining good internal environmental conditions. The building complies with Part L 2013 plus a 40% reduction in TER (beyond ADL2A 2010) with an additional contribution via an extensive roof-mounted PV array.
