Hornsey Secondary School for Girls
This project, at an Inner London Girls Secondary School, involved the development of a new Learning Resource Centre (LRC) and administration facility, together with a new suite dedicated to students over 16. It also included refurbishing the Craft Design Technology (CDT) facility and a Behavioural, Emotional, and Social Development (BESD) unit.
Elementa Consulting provided the project’s mechanical, electrical, energy, and public health engineering services. In terms of sustainability, this project aimed to achieve a BREEAM “Very Good” rating. Elementa Consulting produced energy option appraisals and dynamic thermal modeling to inform design decisions regarding the scheme’s most appropriate building materials, renewable technologies, ventilation strategies, and heating solutions to achieve this. When implemented, these measures contributed to delivering very energy-efficient school facilities rated as “Very Good” within the BREEAM for Schools methodology.
