Sherwood Hill SEN School
To meet the rising demand in the London Borough of Sutton, a new build 72-place SEN school for secondary-age pupils with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) is being provided on an old high school site. The scheme consists of 12 classrooms, each with its own associated safe space, specialist treatment rooms, soft play, hydrotherapy pool, double height hall, and all related functions of a new SEN school.
A sustainable scheme was developed with a highly efficient envelope form and fabric underpinning the Building Services strategy. Elementa Consulting has undertaken extensive thermal modeling to optimize the energy performance and prove the building’s natural ventilation strategy achieved in all classrooms. The design includes an extensive photovoltaic array to exceed the current London Plan Renewables requirements for Planning. Safety and security are paramount concerns, and the team has been heavily involved in developing a cost-efficient yet effective access control, staff communication, and CCTV solution for the scheme. Elementa Consulting has provided the full design of Building Services and Sustainability consulting, including BREEAM consulting, from inception to completion.
