The Dirty Secret of Electrification at Net Zero Conference (NZ21)
The 8th Annual Net Zero Conference (NZ21) is back in 2021 as a hybrid event on September 14 -16, 2021. This year brings more world-class education sessions on net zero, zero carbon, and climate resilience, inspiring keynotes from sustainability leaders worldwide, an interactive virtual expo hall + outdoor in-person expo featuring industry-leading companies, professional networking with industry leaders, virtual tours of net-zero buildings, with attendees from 40 U.S. states and 53 countries.
Integral Group is proud to be represented by Associate Kanika Sharma, Associate Principal Bhavin Degadwala, and Senior Principal Mike Godawa in NZ21’s virtual offering in the session:
The Dirty Secret of Electrification (And What You Can Do About It)
Wednesday, September 15, 2021 | 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM PDT| Online
As we move towards decarbonizing our built environment, one glaring challenge with all-electric buildings is hidden in plain sight. The shift towards electric heating and cooling systems like heat pumps and VRF has also substantially increased refrigerant use. Over a 60-year life of a building, refrigerant leakage and disposal from mechanical systems can be as high as 20% of the building’s whole life carbon emissions.
Using whole life carbon project case studies, we will discuss the necessary steps to reduce the environmental impacts of refrigerants. We will also showcase best practices and strategies that designers/engineers can use to incorporate zero or low GWP refrigerants in their projects. Project Drawdown identifies refrigerant management as the number one climate solution and our presentation will show the reason why.
