Napa Microgrid Performance
In California, extreme weather events, planned utility shut-offs, and inherently fragile “poles and wires” gird infrastructure pose significant threats to power reliability. To increase energy security, Integral Group’s Advanced Energy Services team designed the Napa Microgrid Performance project composed of ~200 kW of solar, 3 MWh of storage, and a controller for this residential client. The proposed microgrid system can support the client’s property off-grid for over a month under optimal solar conditions, completely free of fossil fuels.
To understand the range of days that the microgrid could be expected to provide backup power, the team conducted probabilistic analyses that accounted for variability in solar energy generation, energy demand, and a range of upgrades to mechanical equipment (including a fully electrified scenario). Compared to traditional worst- or best-case analyses, this stochastic analysis provided the client with enough confidence to move forward with the over $3-million Napa Microgrid Performance project.
