New Belgium Brewing Company
In addition to producing world-class beers, New Belgium Brewing Company prides itself on innovation, energy efficiency, conservation, and recycling.
A 17.5-acre brownfield site along the French Broad River in Asheville has been transformed into a production brewery and community destination. The facility includes a 5,000 ft² Liquid Center for beer tasting, the meeting point for brewery tours, and the main brewery facility consisting of the brewhouse, cellar, packaging, production support, and administrative office areas. Integral Group provided mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection design services.
The certified LEED Platinum Liquid Center includes features such as mechanically assisted natural ventilation, radiant slab heating, energy recovery DOAS, solar domestic hot water, and rainwater harvesting for irrigation. The main brewery is targeting a separate LEED certification, including features such as mechanically assisted natural ventilation in the offices, energy recovery DOAS, displacement ventilation in the packaging areas, solar domestic hot water, and rainwater harvesting for cooling tower makeup. The heating and cooling water for the facility is generated through heat exchanges from the process glycol and medium temperature hot water process loops. By combining the facility and process central plants, maintenance is minimized, and flexibility is increased by allowing additional capacity to be shifted to production during off-peak weather conditions.
KEY FEATURES
- Rainwater harvesting and reuse
- Solar hot water
- Displacement/demand control/natural ventilation
