Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Headquarters

Transportation Safety Authority

As a member of the new Department of Homeland Security, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) wished to house its employees in one location. Following an aggressive facilities search in the Washington Metropolitan Area, TSA decided to relocate to the recently vacated MCI WorldCom building in Crystal City.

The renovation design began in February 2002 following the TSA’s temporary occupancy of approximately 300,000 ft² of the existing office space within the 560,000 ft² available in both buildings. To facilitate the required swing spaces for the TSA on a fast-track basis, the project was structured in eleven phases, with the first phase of construction beginning in July 2003 and reaching substantial completion by March 2004.

Specialty spaces include a full-service cafeteria, professional fitness facility, multi-purpose conference center, and employee credit union.
