King’s College London | Learning and Teaching Program
After being successful in appointment to the King’s College London framework, Element Consulting undertook to renovate and refurbish the Weston Education Centre and associated facilities. These projects were performed under the Learning and Teaching program.
The Weston Education Centre (WEC) consisted of complete refurbishment and re-ordering of the existing library and IT laboratories with the refurbishment of two lecture theaters, nine classrooms, and a boardroom. The refurbishment of the lecture theatres involved installing a completely new audio-visual to enhance the delivery of lectures and students’ experience, incorporating features such as lecture capture, projection/display facilities, integrated lighting control, etc. The delivery of the classrooms, lecture/ seminar, and group study rooms have two varying specifications depending on usage. As part of the refurbishment works, we addressed the inherent overheating and acoustic issues experienced by staff and occupants within the library and lecture theatre.
The computer-heavy areas formed a central part of the library and teaching development. The refurbishment consisted of installing new ventilation and heating and cooling systems to address overheating issues within the rooms. The heating and cooling installation connected the College’s centralized chilled and hot water system. The ventilation systems had adaptive control installed to ensure they operated at the optimum level. The complete installation was interfaced with the College’s existing BMS installation to ensure the facilities team had total control. The rooms also had full new lighting and lighting control installation and a complete audio-visual upgrade as part of the works.
